BBP EXTRA: Daniel Routledge previews the new BBL season!

We've previewed the new BBL season for every team and now we have the chance to speak to the current voice of the BBL; Daniel Routledge.

Routledge has commented on the BBL for Sky Sports and will be headed into the new season as the host of BBL TV's game coverage.

The commentator and general basketball personality, thinks that this season will be more competitive at the top of the BBL.

He said: "[Last season] was a really exciting finish, there wasn't much between the teams, some of the teams at the bottom of the table were beating teams at the top of the season."

"It's always hard to judge teams until you see them out of court, having said that, Worcester have strengthened, Glasgow look strong, Newcastle have reloaded, Leicester have brought most of their roster back."

"It looks like the teams have got better but obviously until you get out on the court, it is hard to tell what will happen."

He also believes that it will be difficult for the Leicester Riders to achieve the amazing feat of losing 3 league games.

He continued: "The one thing I think this year, you won't have anyone winning the league with only 3 defeats, it will be more like 5 or 6 defeats."

"It brings in more teams capable of getting there, I think Leicester and Newcastle are the likely favourites but it wouldn't surprise me if a Worcester or a Glasgow were challenging."

"I'm looking forward to getting out their and seeing teams compete, it looks on paper like five or six teams are around the same level, I feel it will be a really competitive season."

Routledge - as mentioned - will be voicing the commentary for BBL TV and he is looking forward to it.

He added: "I'm really looking forward to it, I think it is positive for the sport, it's regular games which can be watched around the world."

"The internet is the future of everything so you might as well get up on there while you can, that's where people are consuming their media."

Birmingham Knights sign up Lewis

The Birmingham Knights have continued to build their squad ahead of their debut season in the BBL with the signing of Ryan Lewis. The forward spent the last two seasons at the Leicester Warriors but has joined the Birmingham-based franchise where he was born. Kendal Johnson wants to ball in the BBL

Kendal Johnson is an American who wants to play in England in a busy week where he is likely to find out where he will be playing and when. Johnson is the cousin of NBA star Marcus Camby and is looking to be a player/coach in the British Basketball League or English Basketball League. He admits he doesn't know too much about the current state of British basketball but has heard good things. He said: 'I've always wanted to go to England but I don't know a lot about the basketball league, I have a friend at the Worcester Wolves and he has told me there is lot's of positives.' 'I've played basketball since I was little obviously having Marcus Camby as a cousin I was always in that sort of environment.'
