BBL cup roundup

The first game this weekend saw the undefeated Worcester Wolves take on the currently winless Manchester Giants. Will Creekmore would lead all scoring a double double of 24 points and 12 rebounds while also scoring 100% from the free throw line with 7/7. Manchester would finish with 4 players in double digits for points with David Aliu top scoring with 15.

Worcester would start the game strong finishing the first quarter leading 24-16 before finishing the second half an impressive 24 points in front of the visiting Giants, with a half time score of 54-30.

Manchester would rally back and win the 3rd quarter 19-15 and the final quarter would be the closest yet with Worcester edging 19-17.

While it was always going to be tough for Manchester going up against the Wolves they played tough through-out and never gave up.

Final score Worcester Wolves 88 – Manchester Giants 66


Next up Durham would host Cheshire in what would be the closest game of the weekend.

With the Wildcats becoming a stronger team each season and the near collapse of Cheshire last year, this game was always going to be entertaining.

Reggie Middleton would lead all scoring 25 points, however most impressive stat of the game would be that every starter for Durham would score 100% of their free throws.

Cheshire would start the game strong winning the first quarter 28-21 and the second 20-16 giving them a comfortable 11 point lead at halftime.

Durham would come into the third quarter strong winning it 24-14 before taking the final quarter 17-13.

Both teams look set to compete for a playoff position this season and with Durham extending their run in the cup they also set to be the underdogs in the race for some silverware.

Final score Durham Wildcats 78 – Cheshire Phoenix 75

The final cup game of the weekend would be The Birmingham Knights taking on The Plymouth Raiders.

Plymouth would start the game strong finishing the first quarter with a massive 37 points compared to Birmingham’s 18.

After the first quarter Plymouth would slow down a little, however they would not give Birmingham any hope of a comeback, finishing the 2nd quarter 26-17 giving a 28 point gap between the two teams at halftime.

The 3rd quarter would finish the same 26-17 before Birmingham would win the final quarter 20-14.

Donald Robinson of Plymouth would finish top scorer with 26 points sending a message to Brent Benson of Birmingham that he wouldn’t be leading the league in points per game for much longer.

Plymouth Raiders Academy player Ryan Peard would make his debut in the BBL playing majority of the 4th quarter.

Final score Birmingham Knights 72 – Plymouth Raiders 103

Kendal Johnson wants to ball in the BBL

Kendal Johnson is an American who wants to play in England in a busy week where he is likely to find out where he will be playing and when. Johnson is the cousin of NBA star Marcus Camby and is looking to be a player/coach in the British Basketball League or English Basketball League. He admits he doesn't know too much about the current state of British basketball but has heard good things. He said: 'I've always wanted to go to England but I don't know a lot about the basketball league, I have a friend at the Worcester Wolves and he has told me there is lot's of positives.' This summer has so far been an incredible one for women’s football, with huge audiences for England women’s fixtures as the lionesses roared to the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
